ABSTRACT

Malnutrition is a major public health concern in developing countries, contributing to 45% of deaths among children under five years old. In the Republic of Guinea, the prevalence of acute malnutrition is estimated at 6.7%, largely influenced by inadequate breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the Prefecture of Fria to assess the impact of feeding practices on the growth and development of children aged 6 to 59 months. A sample of 450 children residing in the prefecture was included in the study. The findings revealed a prevalence of acute malnutrition of 8.9%, while 4.4% of the children were underweight, and 7.1% suffered from chronic malnutrition.
