This article presents Historical Semiotics as a potential analytical tool within Cassirer’s Philosophy of Symbolic Forms (1923-1929). In doing so, it attempts to conceptualize history as a system of signs. Relevant concepts, such as the historical sign, aim to operationalize the otherness of historical textual worlds for the subject of cognition and to sharpen the boundaries of epistemology with regard to the historical object of cognition. The interdisciplinary field of anti-Semitism research is targeted as an example of the application of Historical Semiotics.
